X-Men: First Class - OMG LIKE WOAH!
Jun. 21st, 2011 11:04 pmOkay, just got back from the cinema after FINALLY watching FC and it was aaaawesome!!!!
Magneto has always been one of my favorite "villains", exactly for the reason that I have to put it in quotation marks. I just love three-dimensional, non-evil villains. Villains that have been led astray, that have an agenda that is, objectively, wrong but that you can sympathize with on a personal and emotional level. First Class gave us so much more of that than was already hinted at in the other three X-Men movies.
I'm a bit too overwhelmed and giddy to write a full review, but I really enjoyed the movie immensely. It wasn't as 'fun' as the other three (I'm not counting Wolverine here because that was a whole different thing all together and with other characters) but it certainly was very interesting, thrilling and touching. I love it when a popcorn action flick actually causes you to start an ethical/psychological discussion about the motifs and characters. That's the difference between just an action flick and one with a meaningful story. THAT'S entertainment!
And OH MY GAWD were Charles and Eric slashy. I got so much from all the epic squeeage on twitter, LJ and everywhere else, but I couldn't begin to imagine HOW MUCH exactly. I don't think I've ever seen two characters that slashy, except for maybe TOS Kirk and Spock. This movie actually was one of the most tragic romances I've seen in a long time.
Anyway. If you could rec me some really awesome Charles/Eric fics that have as much (or more) depth as the movie, one that explores the characters and their relationship thoroughly, that would be great!
